Study classical ballet technique developed from the Vaganova (Russian), Cecchetti (Italian) and Royal Academy (English) principals and traditions. Today’s dancer must be prepared to dance a wide variety of styles and techniques with America’s diverse contemporary choreographers.
Tap dance was born in the United States during the 19th century, and today is popular all around the world. The name comes from the tapping sound made when the small metal plates on the dancer's shoes touch a hard floor. This lively, rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a percussive musician.
Hip-Hop is a freestyle form of dance that was born on the streets and is now popular in schools and studios. Branches of hip hop include break dancing, popping and locking. Unlike classical dance disciplines, hip hop has a varying, loose vocabulary and requires dancers to be close to the ground. There are as many styles of hip hop as there are teachers. Important aspects of hip hop are attitude and musicality, and the movements lend themselves to rap, hip hop and pop music.
An exciting and ever evolving dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion and life. Steeped in the rhythm of jazz music, a true American art form, jazz dance brings energy and life to all those who dance it. Classes explore body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms and encourage individual expression and the development of personal style. Jazz can be powerful and percussive or expressive and lyrical. Ever evolving, jazz dance is taught with the music of today together with the classical jazz of yesterday. Classes teach basic jazz dance technique, terminology and movement quality with an emphasis on proper execution of jazz isolations, rhythms and style performed to contemporary music.
Modern dance is a contemporary dance form that has its roots in ballet. It emphasizes the use of the floor for centering and grounding oneself in movement. This class focuses on the breath (inhale/exhale), which brings quality to one’s movement. Concepts of overcurve/undercurve, contraction/release, musicality and rhythm are explored. Teachers incorporate an eclectic blend of contemporary and post-modern movement into their classes.
MUSICAL THEATRE DANCE
Focuses on dance styles used on the Broadway stage. The Student will be taught dance steps and choreography from Broadway shows with a concentration on performance style. We offer beginning and advanced classes.
Tumbling is designed with the dancer’s needs in mind. We have three levels of tumbling . Our goal is to have our students master all the basics through back hand springs, aerials and back tucks. With this ability, the students will be able to incorporate these moves into their dance routines and execute these moves at auditions.
Theatre Workshop is designed to excite the imagination and to develop acting skills through performance. Through preparing for two performances during the studio year, the students will take their performance skills to the next level. Our enthusiastic young students will have the opportunity to work and study with teachers who encourage and stimulate the creative process.
Additionally, the Theater Workshop offers an excellent opportunity for students to vocalize in a group setting. Moss teaches the basic techniques of breath support and proper stance, while encouraging the students to sing expressively and with confidence while preparing for our productions. The main focus of Theatre Workshop will be to prepare and work towards our Christmas Show in December and a full musical in May.
ACT IT OUT!
This class is offered to students ages 8-12. Gain confidence and stage presence in this introduction to theatre. We channel the energy and imagination of young actors through creative dramatics, theatre games and story dramas. Students build theatre skills such as stage directions, blocking, character development, working as a group and preparing for future classes. This class will perform a scene in the year end recital.
This Class is offered to students ages 13-17. Acting 1 explores the actor's process in preparing for a role. It covers acting principles, including action, objective, obstacles, conflict, beats and being in the moment. It incorporates fundamentals of movement, voice and improvisation essential to the art of acting. Students will examine scripts, do character analysis, monologue work, maintain actors' journals and perform a scene in the end of year recital.
This class builds on the skills learned in Acting 1. All students must take Acting 1 prior to taking Acting 2.
This class is offered for students ages 8-13. Get a chance to have your very own GLEE! Sing songs from all of the musicals! Work with a vocal coach that will teach you the basics of vocal technique while learning to sing with confidence and with feeling. Great fun! This class will perform in the year end recital.
ACT & SING
This class is for our young students ages 4-7. In each class, we will do 20 minutes of "Imaginacting;" 20 minutes of "Music and Singing;" and 20 minutes of "Creative Movement Dance." It is a great way for your little student to get introduced to the performing arts.
MUSIC SIGHT READING
This class is designed to help our Middle and High School students sight read music notes. This is a very important skill when trying to learn and sing different harmonies. Sight reading is good for all students that are in Theatre Workshop, Broadway Sings, Private Voice and any student with plans to pursue a college degree in Musical Theatre or Vocal Performance.
"PITCH PERFECT" GROUP VOCAL COACHING CLASS
This class is for the student who is not quite ready for private voice but would like to have the same training as in a private voice but in a group class setting. Maximum class size is 8 students.
PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS
Private voice lessons are offered to any of our acting and dance students.
SUMMER MUSICAL THEATRE IMMERSION CAMP 2015
Immerse yourself in acting, voice and dance. Camp is 4 weeks long, Monday through Friday 9am to 3pm from June 8th through July 31st. Take classes in acting, voice and dance the first half of the day and then rehearse for a full musical the second half of the day. The Camp concludes with a full performance of a musical. Fantastic opportunity for our students with wonderful, qualified instructors in the performng arts......"Training the Triple Threat!"
